Claude made me an extra €1,636 last month. Here's exactly how

First of all, an apology guys. This week's titbit is a few days late, let me shed some light on why. And make sure you read to the end because there's a little lesson that I'd to share with you.

A couple of weeks ago, an old contact called me, he said he had an interesting opportunity for me regarding the World Cup and Crypto.com.

They want to do brand activations across sports bars in Madrid and Barcelona for the entire World Cup. My contact had Malaga covered, but he needed someone who could make it happen in the other cities.

He had a budget. And he had a deadline. The whole thing had to be confirmed within the week.

Massive opportunity for my business.

Cue four days of running around like an absolute headless chicken.

I won't bore you with every step, but here's the brisk version.

The Hunt

Step one was finding the bars. I asked my trusty friend Claude to scrape me a list of every Irish pub and sports bar in Madrid, and sort them into a spreadsheet.

Then I split the outreach three ways. Marc, my VA, on emails; Eddy, our event planner; started knocking on doors and calling in on people in person. I took Instagram DMs.

We got into real conversations with about 15 bars. Four made it to final negotiations.

Two said no (their loss 😜).

Two said yes 🔥

The Equipazo

We had the events confirmed. Now we needed the people. I put out a couple of stories asking for autonomos in Madrid who could work nights for the next month.

We pulled in the current Guiris hosts, built the rotas, and tried to keep the same faces working as many nights as possible so we don't have to train someone new every day.

The Tool (not me lol)

Step three was building a way to actually run all of this from above. I needed a way to track the progress of performance in both bars because I can't be in two places at once.

So I vibe coded a little app with our trusty friend Lovable that tracks conversions per bar per person, with a daily leaderboard for the ultimate winners, plus team-based and individual goals built in. (I wanted to generate a bit of healthy competition between our staff heheh)

That way I can sit on my all-knowing throne, gazing into my own little crystal ball like Saruman Lord of the Rings.

Bars locked. Team in place. Tracking app running, and the chaos began on Thursday.

we're only a few days into it right now, so I'll probably do a full breakdown after the campaign's over and once I can judge the success of it better.

Good for you, Tom, but why are you telling us this story?

It's because this opportunity didn't just fall out of the sky.

My contact called me because we've done an event before together, that went well.

He knew that I'm the Guiris de Mierda guy in Madrid, and that I've got a pre-existing network and infrastructure to make this happen quickly.

It really backs up a point that I've made time and time again: the most valuable thing about a community is the network that you build from it.

I didn't set out to do that, but I definitely noticed it along the way.

Building a community looks, from the outside, like a total breeze. Events. Drinks. Likes. Followers. But in reality, anyone that has run events knows that it becomes a job like everything else.

But weeks like this show me that when you keep putting in work consistently, you're writing checks to your future self. Every event you run. Every person you hire and train. Every relationship you build.

You don't know when those checks get cashed.

But they will.

For now though, sorry again for the late one. Back to the bars.

That's the titbit for today.

Tom
