Let's all move to a remote village
read time 5 minutes

You don't believe what you see online anymore. And neither does anyone else.

43% of people now say they don't trust most of the content they see online, and trust in news has fallen to 37% globally, the lowest level ever recorded (No wonder with the absolute drivel the mainstream media pumps out).

People don't believe that the government has their back anymore, because they would rather work with big tech, big pharma and big food to keep us poor, sick and fat.

Let me paint you a picture.

You open your feed tomorrow.

More than half the videos are AI. Cloned voices. Photos of places that don't exist. Podcasts hosted by fake influencers. Ads written by nobody (Dead internet theory, anyone? 👀)

You keep scrolling, everything is a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy.

Even the people building the AI have been warning for years that AI will cause a job apocalypse, and if you've spent any time creating agents in Claude then you'll see it seems pretty inevitable.

(It is worth interjecting with the slight caveat is that Sam Altman has recently been walking back his job-apocalypse predictions, but that's within the context of him prepping OpenAI for an IPO - nice try, Sam!).

Get to the point, Tom

What I'm getting at is in a world drowning in fake content, one naturally looks for things that AI can't do. Because therein lies the opportunity.

And you probably guessed by now what I'm betting on: Face to face, baby.

Now, let me tell you what I think happens next

I think the city empty out.

I shared an idea with a close group of friends a few months ago about starting a remote working village. I kind of shared it as a pipe dream, but it really resonated strongly with more people than I ever thought it would.

And as it turns out, I'm not the only one thinking this.

Portugal now has government-backed "Nomad Villages" with co-working built in, designed to pull remote workers into community-style living.

The appetite for real, in-person, human stuff is already here.

The rise of events and clubs that require you to physically show up are going through the roof. Phone-free events are up 913% in the US in just two years.

People ultimately vote with their money, and people are paying to do these kinds of events.

What can you do about all this?

The scarce, valuable skill of the next decade isn't a technical one. It's the ability to gather people around something real, and tell the story that makes them show up.

Community building is the skill of the next decade.

Which is a very convenient segue, because I'm running a free online workshop on Saturday about exactly this.

Come with the thing you'd love to build a community around, whether that's a run club, a language exchange, a dinner series, whatever it is you'd secretly love to see exist.

Leave with real clarity on your first steps.

Here's the link, see ya there! 👇

That's the titbit for today.

Tom
